Chapter Seven

The old man was sitting in the hotel having breakfast when Johan returned; alone.
He scratched his forehead. Things just hadn't been going as he had originally anticipated, they should have acted that day in the park when they had their chance. Silvia might have slipped through their hands this time, for good.
Maybe she knew she was being followed. Maybe she was scared and on the run. It would not surprise him at all, after all she had been through.

Johan sat down next to him and Daniel could tell he was not about to bring good news.

"The plane was diverted to Lisbon, due to complications. Do you think she in danger?"

"I don't know, I don't know!" said Daniel tired of it all.

It had taken them so long to find her they couldn't lose her now. Johan poured him a drink.

"It will all be over soon", he reassured Daniel, "the planets are starting to line up it is the right time, you will see."

"Yes but without Silvia, it will mean nothing!" retorted Daniel

"The best things come to those who wait, just be patient Daniel. We were told if she managed to slip away then we would be contacted by...well...by our Contact. "

"I don't think you realise what is at stake here Johan, we were raised for this very thing! For this day which is almost upon us."

Johan turned on him. "You think I don't know what is at stake? We had the same mother and father, we were raised together in the same house. I have had to ..."

He stopped speaking before he said something he might regret later. He always felt that his brother found him incompetent, and useless, even though he had taken care of him all these years, since their parent's death. All the work he had done, he had been the one who found Silvia, and did not get so much as a 'thank you' from his brother.

He often wondered if he blamed him for the accident.
They had never spoken of it, ever. Not in all the 60 years since it had happened, Daniel had never brought it up once.

"What about Mike?" asked Daniel.

"Mike?" laughed Johan "Mike is in pieces, the death of his wife has pushed him over the edge".

Daniel smiled.

"That is the idea"

Johan handed the glass of whisky to his brother.

"It will be over soon Daniel", he smiled, "one way or another, it will be over soon".
